Game of the Year 2017: Mobile game of the year


Welcome to the DDNet Awards of 2017! We have 16 categories this year, representing the full gamut of creativity and artistry that games represent. 2017 has been an incredible year for videogames, and is without a doubt one of the best years for games ever, and that has made this year's award particularly difficult to decide on.

As always, our voting period for the "year" runs from late November the year before through to late November this year. So if you see a game released in December last year in the awards winners, that's why.

It's fair to say that a lot of the interest in mobile gaming has shifted away over the last year or so. What was once a beacon of opportunity for independent developers has become a mire of highly exploitative and derivative free-to-play games, as the audience over there spits chips at the smallest of upfront costs for games. Despite that, developers and publishers willing to wear the lack of discoverability and handle modest sales goals are doing some great things with mobile, still, and occasionally one of those exploitative F2P games really hooks us in too.
